Welcome to Carlipsen.com. I am an historian of modern Italy and have been on the faculty at Indiana University since 1994. You can learn more about that from my cv and publications. I was also a founding director of the IU Food institute 2015-2021 (see link above). For seven years (2011-18) I was director of the Collins Living Learning Center at IU, a wonderful place. Finally I have included an occasional blog which has been quiet for the past year or so. For 2021-22 I will be on sabbatical and working on the history of olive oil. Covid permitting, I'll be mostly in Italy.
